9-1-1: Nashville just added another new character ahead of the series premiere—and Virgin River fans will be excited about this casting news.

The latest spinoff in the 9-1-1 franchise is set to premiere on Thursday, October 9, 2025 on ABC, and fans can’t wait to see what emergencies this group of first responders will find in Nashville. While the main cast members (like Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes, and Kimberly Paisley) have been previously announced, it looks like ABC decided they’d share some news about other actors who folks can see on the show.

As Deadline revealed on August 15, Virgin River star Tim Matheson (who portrays Vernon “Doc” Mullins) is set to join 9-1-1: Nashville in a recurring role. What’s more, he’ll play a man named Edward that the outlet describes as someone who has “Southern old money” and is “utterly ruthless” in behavior.

Given how Tim has a loyal following from his work on Virgin River as of late, this news about him joining 9-1-1: Nashville had folks completely stunned on social media.

“Omg it’s Doc!!! Does Hope know about this??  I love him on Virgin River!” one person exclaimed on Instagram. “Congrats, Tim! I was already planning on watching the show, but now I am even more excited!” another declared. “Great news love him he’s a great actor,” a different follower added.
