‘I’d Love That’: Michael Weatherly Talks Possible Collaboration With Niece Alexandra Breckenridge Beyond Virgin River

NCIS star Michael Weatherly wants to finally share the screen with niece Alexandra Breckenridge — but not on Virgin River.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly about NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Weatherly, 57, weighed in on the chances of Breckenridge, 43, appearing on his show — or him making a cameo on her hit Netflix series.“Personally I would love that. I love Alex so much. She is an amazing human and niece. I love her husband, Casey [Hooper] and their kids,” he gushed. “Gosh, I always wait for the universe to do what it’s gonna do. I try not to push too hard.”

Weatherly will jump on an opportunity to collaborate with Breckenridge.

“We have never worked together [yet]. So let’s not make that a forever statement,” the actor said before admitting he wasn’t sure if that meant sharing the screen on one of their existing projects — or something new.

Instead, Weatherly suggested exploring a new genre with Breckenridge. “I won’t do horror,” he said. “She did American Horror Story, The Walking Dead and True Blood. But I don’t want anything to do with that. I just feel like I’d be scared.”

He added: “Sci-fi. We’ll do sci-fi and I’ll go to space.”

Weatherly is currently focused on his return to the NCIS universe. He originally starred on NCIS as Tony DiNozzo from seasons 1 to 13. He later appeared on CBS’ Bull from 2016 to 2022 before taking a break from the spotlight. Weatherly is now back in front of the camera with NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which follows Tony and Cote de Pablo‘s character Ziva.

The 10-episode series, which premiered on Thursday, September 4, “picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris.”

According to the official synopsis, Tony and Ziva, who have been raising daughter Tali together, must “go on the run across Europe” when Tony’s security company is attacked. The fictional couple has to “try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”

Weatherly spoke to Us about the spinoff show’s unconventional decision to break Tony and Ziva up before the series premiere

“The show itself is a kind of unreliable narrator,” Weatherly teased. “That is why you sort of think they’re together for a second, but then they’re not, but then they might be. Then you’re like, ‘Wait, which timeline am I in?’”
